Absolutely beautiful, a real work of art. Highly recommend a visit. I'd heard about this ages ago and had it on my list if things to see when I was next in New Ross. I popped into The Dunbrody centre to get directions and it was thronged with foreign tourists. The Ros Tapestry is 2 minutes walk away and nobody was there when I started my tour. A lovely lady brought me through to the exhibit and explained a bit about how it came about & what it portrayed. In summary it's about the arrival of the Normans in Wexford and how Dermot McMurrough invited the Normans into Wexford/ Ireland to help him re-establish his seat of power, how his daughter, Aoife, married Strongbow, his Grand-daughter, Isabella, married the Normans knight William Marshall and their efforts to turn New Ross into a trading town to rival the established port of Waterford. Fascinating, I learned so much & you can also pop upstairs to see ongoing work on the next tapestries. Really lovely people. Strongly recommended!
